In a new book, The State of Conservation, Joshua Nygren examines the political economy and ecology of agricultural conservation in the US through the lens of the "conservation-industrial complex." He argues that this complex promoted a development-oriented brand of conservation that aided the rise of large-scale, capital-intensive agriculture which continues today, with significant consequences for soils and soil workers. 

 

Situation is improving, but women are still under-represented in soil science, especially in leadership positions

 

Exploring the role of soil in Black American poetry this paper stresses the issue of belonging through land labour.
